Integration of VIPV Systems into Main High-Voltage Batteries in Collaboration with MPEL
Our collaborative study with the Maryland Power Electronics Laboratory (MPEL) at the University of Maryland, titled Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics in Battery Electric Vehicles: DC–DC Converter Design and Energy Harvesting Performance for Main High-Voltage Battery Integration, was published in Energy.
Authored by Huseyin Ayhan Yavasoglu, Benjamin Shani, Ayooluwa Ajiboye, Hassan Habib Chaudhry, and Alireza Khaligh, the research investigates a power electronics solution for transferring solar energy harvested from vehicle-integrated photovoltaic (VIPV) systems to the main high-voltage traction battery of battery electric vehicles.
The study involved the design and optimization of an LLC resonant DC-DC converter compatible with different high-voltage battery architectures. The developed converter design was evaluated using an experimental laboratory prototype.
