Our Experimental Research on Caliper Sensor Development for In-Line Inspection Systems

The study titled Experimental Rig Design for the Development of Wheel-Type Caliper Sensor, conducted in collaboration between TESS-G researchers and researchers from the TUBITAK Rail Transport Technologies Institute (RUTE), was published in the Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation.

Authored by Berke Ogulcan Parlak, Hasan Basri Gurdal, Furkan Bolat, Yasar Yilmaz, Yunus Emre Fedar, and Huseyin Ayhan Yavasoglu, the research presents an experimental test system designed for the development of wheel-type caliper sensors used in the in-line inspection (ILI) of oil and natural gas pipelines.

A modular rotating experimental rig capable of reproducing different geometric deformations was developed, including its mechanical, electronic, and software infrastructure. Experimental investigations evaluated the influence of the initial inspection arm angle on the measurement performance for concave and convex pipeline deformations.
